Who Can Join the Choir ?

Putting it quite simply anyone

  • Both Men & Women
  • Anyone who has wondered what its's like to sing. Anyone who thinks they can't sing and are willing to get a nice surprise.
  • Anyone who is looking for a new way to unwind from the stresses of daily life.
  • Anyone who has not sung for a long time and want to see if they still enjoy it.
  • Anyone who already sings elsewhere and wants to broaden their experience.
  • Anyone who just wants to get out more.

Do I have to be a Police Officer ?

No, The Choir is made up of Serving & Retired Officers but also Support Staff, Family, Friends and those who have no connection with the Police but just enjoy singing.

But I have never sung before - Can I join ?

Yes, We are geared up to helping people discover their voice.  Our Musical Director Norman and Deputy Doreen are very experienced at leading singers who have never sung before and/or cannot read music.

So is it only for beginners then ?

We welcome experienced singers and beginners alike.  People have joined the choir without the ability to read a note, others are experienced singers.  Whatever your music ability you are welcome.

Have I got to be auditioned ?

There is no formal audition.  However we'd like to hear your voice so that we can make sure you are singing the right part.

Are there any age Restrictions ?

Age is unimportant.  However due to insurance retrictions at concerts under 16's are not permitted to peform.

How long has the choir been going ?

The Choir started in 1989 and has performed over 260 concerts raising over £200 000 for local charities.

What kind of music does the choir sing ?

We have an extensive repertoire of songs, including operatic choruses, stage show favourites, choral works by the great composers, modern light music, traditional songs, sacred music and just about every other kind. The music is chosen by the musical director. Each concert will include a mixture of songs to give something for everyone to enjoy..

Are you connected with a church ?

No.  The choir is non-sectarian.  We welcome anyone to join to the choir.  We do perform a number of our concerts in Churches as the accoustics are better and often we are helping to raise money for the church.

What would my commitment as a member be?

The Choir rehearses everying Tuesday Evening, 7.30pm at Essex Police College, Chelmsford, for directions visit the 'About Us' page. There are around twelve concerts each year, mainly on Saturday evenings. All music and uniforms are provided by the choir.

How do I book the choir?

There is no charge by the choir. This means that most concerts produce a healthy benefit to the organisers' chosen charity or good cause. The choir is self-financing by means of CD sales, members' contributions and sale of momentos at concerts. No cost falls to the public.

Contact the secretary by email. The choir is booked well in advance, so usually at least a year's notice will be needed. The choir normally performs three Christmas concerts during the month of December.
