About Us
Since the formation of the Essex Police Choir in 1989, it has established a reputation for fine singing, both in this country and abroad. Its membership is drawn from past and present officers of all ranks, civilian support staff and friends of Essex Police and now has around 55 singing members, plus of course our Musical Director Norman Eastbrook and our Deputy Musical Director Doreen Potter.
The aim of the choir is to enjoy singing, help raise funds for charities and worthy causes and promote good police relations with the general public. Since inception the Choir has raised over £200,000 for Essex based Charities. The Choir performs free of charge to support charitable events at a wide range of venues. We raise funds from our own events to support our chosen charities each year.
We sing a wide ranging repertoire, including popular music, arrangements from the shows, spirituals and traditional secular music. In addition to the Choirs concerts in Essex, the Choir has also performed in Canada, France, the Czech Republic, Northern Ireland and Wales. In 2009 the Choir was once again on their travels with a tour in South West Ireland.
The Choir is self-financing by means of members subscriptions, CD sales and from ‘The Friends of Essex Police Choir’ who not only provide refreshments at our concerts but also continually raise funds for us. No cost falls to the public. We could not achieve all that we do and are lucky to have the support and funds from the ‘Friends’.The Chair of the ‘Friends’ Mrs Marjorie Simpson organises fundraising events throughout the year. She also makes a variety of crafts which are sold at numerous venues including Sandringham House and Hylands House.
We welcome new members and guarantee a warm reception to all who are willing to support and promote Essex Police Choir and its work for Charities across Essex.
Rehearsals take place at the Essex Police College, Police Headquarters, St Margarets Road, Springfield, Chelmsford, on Tuesdays evenings at 1930hrs. Parking is available to the rear of the building adjacent to the rehearsal room.
