About Us
Since the formation of the Essex Police Choir in 1989 it has established a reputation for fine singing, both in this country and abroad. Members comprise from serving and retired officers, support staff, and friends of Essex Police. There are around 55 singing members, plus our Musical Director Norman Eastbrook MBE and our Deputy Musical Director Doreen Potter.
Choir members aim to enjoy singing, help raise funds for charities and worthy causes, and promote good police/public relations. Since 1989 the choir has raised around £250,000 for Essex based Charities by performing free of charge at charitable events at a wide range of venues. The choir also raises funds to support our chosen charities each year.
The choir sings a wide-ranging repertoire which includes songs from the shows, spirituals, popular music and traditional secular music. As well as concerts in Essex and adjacent counties, the choir has also performed in Canada, France, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Northern Ireland and Wales. In 2011 two concerts were performed in Cornwall.
Essex Police Choir funds itself from subscriptions and sales of merchandise. We are very lucky to have support of our 'Friends of Essex Police Choir’ whose members raise funds for us and provide refreshments at our concerts.
Rehearsals take place in the Assembly Room, Essex Police Headquarters, Kingston Crescent, Springfield, Chelmsford, CM2 6DN on Tuesdays evenings at 7.30pm. Free parking is available adjacent to the building in the Orchard Car park. If you would like further information please don't hesitate to contact us joinus@essexpolicechoir.co.uk
