About Us

Since the formation of the Essex Police Choir in 1989, it has established a reputation for fine singing, both in this country and abroad. Its membership is drawn from past and present officers of all ranks, civilian support staff and friends of Essex Police and now has over 45 singing members, plus of course our Musical Director Norman Eastbrook and our Deputy Musical Director Doreen Potter.

The aim of the choir is to enjoy singing, help raise funds for charities and worthy causes and promote good police relations with the general public. Since inception the Choir has raised over £200,000 for Essex based Charities. The Choir performs free of charge to support charitable events at a wide range of venues. We raise funds from our own events to support our chosen charities each year.  For 2008 these are East Anglian Childrens Hospice (EACH) and 'Open Door' Music Therapy.

We sing a wide ranging repertoire, including popular music, arrangements from the shows, spirituals and traditional secular music.  In addition to the Choirs concerts in Essex, the Choir has also performed in Canada, France, the Czech Republic, Northern Ireland and Wales.

We welcome new members and guarantee a warm reception,to all who are willing to support and promote Essex Police Choir and its support for Charities. Rehearsals take place at the Essex Police College, Police Headquarters, St Margarets Road, Springfield, Chelmsford, on Tuesdays evenings at 1930hrs.
